Hi guys, I was wondering who has done some playing around with CAPSMan so far ?? We have a wireless network we need to build for a customer but they need a couple of AP's on the same SSID in reasonably close proximity which means they will interfere with each other. I was wondering, with the limited amount I have researched this new component, will it help in this situation and allow users to smoothly transition from one AP to another ? Previously we have worked with Ruckess wireless AP's and controllers and they seem to handle having AP's close to each other without any issues for users roaming, will CAPSMan help in situations like this as well ? What approach would you take in this situation ? Thanks Paul

RBMetal2SHPn wireless thermal shutdown?

Can anyone tell me if there is a thermal shutdown arrangement within the wireless component of a RBMetal2SHPn? I have a pair of RBMetal2SHPns on a 13km link and if I turn up the power to get good throughput, the RBMetal2SHPn sending the data shuts down its wireless after some minutes of maximum throughput. The wlan interface still shows as up, but snooping from the shut down end reveals no stations where it normally shows many. It requires a reboot to get it going again. It feels like a thermal issue, but the system temperature does not change, and its cold outside . Any help appreciated. Steve.

SNMP routes display

Hi, There's a bug in all my v6 CCRs where snmpwalk only returns the first non-default route in the route table. I'm running v6.13, there's no mention of a fix in the notes for .14 and .15. The old V5 snmp route check no longer works. v5: snmpget -v2c -c <community> 172.20.0.2 iso.org.dod.internet.mgmt.mib-2.ip.ipRouteTable.ipRouteEntry.ipRouteNextHop.0.0.0.0 RFC1213-MIB::ipRouteNextHop.0.0.0.0 = IpAddress: 172.25.51.121 v6: snmpget -v2c -c <community> 172.27.0.62 iso.org.dod.internet.mgmt.mib-2.ip.ipRouteTable.ipRouteEntry.ipRouteNextHop.0.0.0.0 RFC1213-MIB::ipRouteNextHop.0.0.0.0 = No Such Instance currently exists at this OID Am I missing something on my snmp query server? 900MHz?

Incidentally, speaking of RB Metal. Does anyone 'out there' do anything (or have any use for) 900MHz gear? Reason I ask is that MT have just released a 900MHz version of RB Metal (http://routerboard.com/RBMetal9HPn) and I'm wondering whether there is any demand for it in ANZ. I *think* most countries in our region follow the same regulatory guidelines, which makes 900MHz pretty useless for any bandwidth requirements of more than a few megabits, so I'm not sure whether it is something that we should keep some stock of? Australia MUM

Hi All, So it is official: No MUM For Australia this year :( Word is that they have committed to several new countries this year, and so smaller events like ours (105 in Brisbane, 91 in Sydney) are not considered high priority areas. Suggestion is that they will consider AU again for 2015. For it to happen, they need to feel like there will be a good showing - perhaps we can run a demand register again? Incidentally, as a matter of comparison, last two MUM events I attended myself were Las Vegas in 2012 with about 800 attendance, and Jogyakarta (indo) in 2013 with a massive showing of 1500. Puts our ~100 turn-out into some perspective, but since we do have some reasonable growth here, they have not totally abandoned us (yet ;) Cheers, Mike.

Spinning disk like noise on RB951ui-2HnD

Hi, I've got one of these little beauties (RB951ui-2HD) at my home for my QOS and L3 load balancing. I'm curious, only recently, when any traffic goes through the device at over 10Mbps there's a noise which sounds a lot like a spinning hard drive under heavy load. Has anyone noticed this/is this normal? I'm not overly concerned, just a little curious. Right now it's running PCC with failover like a champ, I'd only wish I could do PCC and PCQ.. CPU is not even going past 30% Cheers, Andrew.

copy dscp value from payload to l2tp header

Hi all, Came across an interesting tip today that I thought there may be others here that will like to hear it - some of you probably already know it! ;-) Carrying dscp differentiated traffic across l2tp tunnel means that the dscp attributes on the payload packets are essentially hidden from the routers carrying l2tp tunnel. So, how to copy dscp from payload to tunnel headers? Obvious technique like packet mark or connection mark doesn't work since packet/connection marks are also apparently lost in encapsulated tunnel packet (as we should probably expect ;) "priority" value, however, is preserved, so one way to copy dscp to the l2tp packets is to first match relevant dscp packets and set come priority value - then add dscp value on output interface carrying l2tp tunnel with same priority. Hands up if you already knew this? You might say that you would have guessed it, but we all know how easy it is to claim that in retrospect! :-D Cheers! Mike.

CRS VLANS

Hi guys, has anybody managed to get vlans via the switch chip working in a new CCS ? I am trying to do the simplest thing but it just doesn't seem to work. Running ROS6.13 I am trying to bring some VLAN's into the SFP port one as a trunk and trunk them back out ether2, should be a simple task, in Cisco I create the vlan set the two ports as trunk ports and add the vlans onto the ports as members, easy, but in the CCS I can't get it to work. I have read heaps of doco and looked at examples and everything I seem to be doing is correct but it just won't work. When I torch the interfaces I can see the vlan traffic, but on the devices on the other side or at least the one side I can see it's not working. The CCS worked fine with the SFP port configured using the traditional ROS vlan configuration but I can't get it to work with the switch chip. Any suggestions or experience here ? Regards Paul

Mike, While we are somewhat on the subject of 5Ghz, I really wish they would release a 751 or 2011 version that is 5ghz...I could see a 2011 that is dual band doing quite well.
