3G/4G with static public IP

Hi guys, is anybody currently using a 3G/4G mobile sim in a router/device that has a static public IP ? I can't find anybody in Telstra who actually realises that they sell such a plan so can't get any traction on it even though I know that people definitely have them and use them. Can anybody tell me how to order such a service ? Thanks Paul

Is it just me or is the support.rif viewer on the mikrotik web site broken. I have tried 4 browsers and 2 computers No luck in uploading any .rif files and no errror messages. Hi Everyone - we still need a couple more presentation topics for the MUM on Friday :-) I know that everybody on this list has some great projects and interesting networks that would be enormous interest to the MUM audience! Some topic ideas: a case study about your network - how you use mikrotik prouct and what benefits and limitations it has. some problem you came up against. How you figured out what the problem was, and what you did to fix it some interesting or clever trick you have developed to make configuration management better/easier some scripting technique that you have developed or learned. Even procedures or techniques that you have learned via video tutorial or online post make great presentations! All presenters get free entry to the MUM, 4 routerOS L5 licenses, plus invitation to DuxTel 'Party Boat' event after the MUM! Join all the MikroTik representatives, exhibitors and other presenters on a 2 hour cruise of the yarra river with catering (incl drinks) included! :-) Reply on or off list if interested! BFD + CCR1036

Hi I have a few CCR1036-8G-2S+, (6.22) I tried turning on BFD with OSPF. My first hurdle was BFD doesn't work by itself ! I then associated it with a OSPF interface, which had 4 nodes on it. Turned it on all 4 nodes.. worked for a while then up / down flapping ... I ran some tests sending flood pings down the line, no missed packets ! My final test, 2 of these boxes side by side, 1 cross over cable. Turned on OSPF + BFD, started to fail :( I have a nice simple firewall rule 10 ;;; Allow BFD chain=input action=accept protocol=udp dst-port=3784 log=no log-prefix="" I do have a drop invalid before it, but that should affect it and for a period of time BFD does come up. I have it attached to one of my BGP peers on a ROS VM, it seems to work fine. So I'm leaning toward an issue with CCR's So anyone else using BFD with CCR's and OSPF ? Alex

Out of Band access options

Hi All, I am interested to know what people are using for OOB management access to remote sites. We have a mix of routers from TPLink to Mikrotik with 3G/4G or DSL lines into them which we then jump through to get to gear on a site, we are currently reviewing our options with a view to standardising on one brand/model if possible. Mikrotik Routerboard is a good option, but for DSL connections it needs a modem, and if using 3G/4G the modems for PCIe are a bit pricey still, just wondering what others are doing and what the most cost effective approach would be for such a little utilised component but one that is really important for remote sites. Hi all, I recently setup an HWMP+ mesh using 4 x RB951Ui at home to be used in the field. The home setup appeared to work fine but of course was an ideal setup. The units are now in the field and seemed to be working fine at the time of installation. Passing default route through BGP?

Hi Guys, Our primary upstream has had a couple of small periods of complete downtime the last couple of nights, which has given me the opportunity (lol) to test our failover with our other two upstreams. Found an issue in that it looks like RouterOS doesn't pass default route through BGP? I currently have one router setup per upstream, receives a default route plus full feed (but we filter to only directly-connected (one AS hop) prefixes for each upstream) I then run IBGP between all edge routers. And also run OSPF between the four edge routers, and the core router, to send a default route to the core. My thinking was that OSPF will redistribute a default route on any edge router with an active default route (i.e. BGP is up and/or gateway IP is pingable) Which works ok, IF the upstream gateway goes down. If I remove the hardcoded default routes, then it works as expected, but leaves those routers uncontactable. I had also been expecting that the default route from each upstream was being passed on via iBGP to the other routers - to the point that I had been setting localpref on each one based on their cost and available bandwidth. On checking tonight, it seems that the 0.0.0.0/0 routes are NOT being propagated via IBGP? I can set default-originate=if-installed, which sends a default route from one peer to another, but it is not the one being received on eBGP from the usptream, as the localpref is wrong. And if I set default-originate=if-installed on the other peer, that peer stops receiving that default route. Has anyone tried this? It works fine on quagga and cisco, but doesn't appear to be working on mikrotik (which if it's correct, makes me glad I found it before I'd forked out on another three hardware routers to go alongside my CCR when it arrives back) Thanks, DG -- Damien Gardner Jnr VK2TDG.
