Hi Team, While I already understand that RouterOS does not listen on VRF interfaces for IP services (Winbox, SSH etc) - I am interested to know if anyone has put together some janky mangle rules to make this work? Cheers, Dave

Hey Guys, I have a single out-of-support UBNT AC AP at home that uses a ton of power and is literally falling apart. Looking at either going a newer UBNT or maybe a cAP AC. There's a couple of things the UBNT boxes do that I don't like (single MAC per registration is one and the controller software is both a blessing and a curse). If you had a choice, what would you choose? Any odd behaviour or weird incompatibilities with the cAP AC? Thanks Tim

RB2011UiAS stuck in boot loop after reset

Hi all, I'm trying to pass on my old RB2011 to a friend... so did a reset: /system reset-configuration skip-backup=yes keep-users=no but now it's stuck in a boot loop. when it boots, it gets to: (console) MikroTik 6.45.7 (stable) MikroTik Login: login as admin, get about 2/3 of a page of the startup text... then it reboots. I've been trying a few things: Select which booter you want to load: * 1 - load regular booter 2 - force backup-booter loading your choice: 2 - force backup-booter loading tried to change the boot device fo "boot Flash Configure mode" I assume that it's got a corrupt FS or something - but... what's the quickest way to get this back to a factory default point from here, ready to do the initial walkthrough? Assistance with CHR on ESX6, Vlan-ing and an HP2910 troubleshooting

Hi everyone, Either there is a fundamental lack of understanding on my part, (highly likely) on MT Vlan-ing/routing, or I'm just having a bad day. I have spun up a CHR box with two VM Nics, one on (VMNetwork) ether1 for management on my local subnet 192.168.1.0/24 which has a dhcp client, use this for winbox mgmt, etc. The other is direct ethernet connection to an HP Procurve 2910al, port 25 for now. VM Nic ether2 (LAN NIC for want of a better term) with Static IP on CHR 10.10.20.200/24 Hoping this can be the management Vlan network. (10.10.20.0/244) This is where i start getting lost in nomenclature and it really starting to get the better of me. This "link" would be: Trunk in Cisco Trunk in MT (?) not sure Tagged in HP As i understand it, I've followed this guide. https://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php?t=143620 For now, I do understand the 2910 will do layer 3 routing, i have chosen to keep with no ip routing on the switch. The reason for now is that most IP services are on the router. Moving routing may be beneficial but the current goal would like to get my devices correctly administered on layer 2 and 3. My only signs of layer two life is a ping from the HP to the CHR ether2 10.10.20.200 is responsive, 10.10.20.1 is not. Also I cannot ping the Vlan IP on the HP (10.10.20.254/24) from the CHR either via the management vlan interface or ether2. At the moment the switch is administered over serial. Attached is the router and switch config for you enjoyment, please let me know where I've gone awry in your eyes and I will try and knock this over, then write up something for posterity. thanks Simon.

empty connection-state value in filter rule?

In a filter list, I have several rules that have connection-state="" in them. For example: chain=ssh action=accept connection-state="" \ protocol=tcp dst-port=22 \ log-prefix="" What do people think would be the behaviour? Router Filtering TCP RST Packets

Hi All I've been asked to look at a problem with a web filtering system for a business. Ever since they upgraded from a 6.5.x version to a current long term release of RouterOS the filtering (RST Packets) traffic generated by the filter system has been lost/blocked by the router. I have pcap files generated by the router showing the RST packets being generated and sent to the client and server of a tcp connection but captures of the inbound and outbound traffic path do not show these RST packets. rp-filter is turned off, ip connection traffic how been tried on and off. I found someone else asking this question https://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php?t=149084 the single reply was from someone who did not understand the problem. Does anyone have any ideas ? routing to remote subnets over IPSEC hops

Hi guys, I'm trying to work out how to get traffic from my local LAN to secondary remote IPSEC networks. For example: home <----> work <--> remotesite (where each of the links is an IPSEC tunnel). If I use Forticlient I can do this fine by: - define phase2 dst & src subnets as 0.0.0.0/0.0.0.0 - existing routes from work --> remotesite still function as expected - make sure local client routes 192.168.0.0/16 over IPSEC gateway address - setup policy on fortigate as follows: incoming interface: Forticlient interface outgoing interface: remoteVPN interface incoming subnet: Forticlient Range outgoing subnet: remote range ports etc: as required I can add a specific P2 route by using /ip ipsec policy and this is working OK - but only for the specific subnet that I define in the policy. What I want to do is create a generic policy that only routes traffic via the IPSEC tunnel when it needs to - and not - when it doesn't need to. But... the issue here is I can't define a route - because there's no virtual interface associated with the IPSEC tunnel (whereas on Fortigate you do get a virtual interface that can be referenced in policies / routes etc). And you can't use a standard route, because the gateway in this case is remote (i.e. it's the router at work). If I try to setup a 0/0 P2 it breaks the VPN completely. Any tips for how I might go about making a more generic / scalable approach here?

Mikrotik RB260GS CSS106-5G-1S Firmware Upgrade Process

Hi all, So this has been bugging me for quite some time, the firmware upgrade process on the RB260GS / CSS106-5G-1S is terribly unclear. I had multiples of these units that I wanted to upgrade to the latest firmware out of the box, and have spent a bit of time narrowing the procedure that worked. I think one of the biggest things that probably sent me around the twist was that if you don't close the web browser session and just refresh the existing page it still shows old firmware version, so to be sure I started using incognito mode along with closing the web browser between reboots to validate the upgrade had taken. Unfortunately there seems to be absolutely no way to upgrade these units remotely in the field, as they require physical power cycling and holding the RES button to boot to a primary firmware. Posting this here in case it helps anyone else out in a similar situation, and anyone who has found a better process feel free to add to this thread... Mikrotik RB260GS CSS106-5G-1S Firmware Upgrade Process (from new in box) ========================================================================= 1. Unbox 2. Press and hold RES button while applying power 3. Wait for ACT light to stop blinking and stay on solid GREEN then release hold of the RES button. 4. Connect programming laptop to Ethernet Port 1 and open a command prompt with "ping -t 192.168.88.1" to keep an eye on switch CPU online 5. Login to web interface at 192.168.88.1 using Chrome/Edge Chromium incognito mode 6. Browse to Upgrade Tab - Current installed version should show 2.7p to indicate its booted the primary firmware. If it shows 2.7 then remove power and start again at step 2. 7. Under Manual Upgrade section click Choose File button and locate the swos-css106-2.11.bin file to upload 8. Click Upgrade button in bottom right corner 9. Red message "Upgrading... (Please do not interrupt)" will show next to upgrade button. Wait for this message to clear. 10. Close incognito web browser. 11. Remove Power from Switch, wait 10 seconds 12. Apply power to switch, wait for ping to respond and then open a new incognito window to 192.168.88.1 and check Upgrade tab shows current installed version now 2.11 NOTES: Have also tested this process upgrading through SFP fibre module (FS.com 1000BASE-LX SFP) from laptop on a remote switch with fibre uplink in same Layer2 segment and worked fine.

Sounds like the RB3011 will fit the bill... I don't quite need to push 1.8Gbps per stream :) The RB3011/4011 are both more $$ than the RB450Gx4 or 750Gr3. If the extra $ are necessary to meet what i want then that's fine, but if the smaller unit will do it - then that would be better as it's smaller... presumably lower power and cheaper. @Russell I think the VLAN on switch chip might be the thing that tripped me up with one of the other units I played with, in which case the 3011 would be a better option?
