rOS v7 suitability for production use

G'day, I need to get a partial internal network rebuild done, and it seems like a good time to bump the routers up from v6 to v7. Are there any considerations any longer with doing this for production routers? Is BGP now allowed to use multiple cores? The safe option seems to be v6 latest, however it's a good opportunity to make the move up to v7 now that it's matured. :-) Looking forward to hearing your musings, thoughts, experiences and beyond. Soooo, how does one get BFD to come up on ROS 7? :)

So, I was off work sick today, have been holding off on upgrading all my 'production' gear to ROS 7 until BFD support was a thing. Supposedly it's now supported, so I upgraded one of my routers (RB1100AHx4). And yeah, BFD does not appear to work :( Asked a few colleagues, and it's working for them. We compared configs, and identical configs basically, just different hardware on the other side. Is there a trick to it? Is it only supported on specific Mikrotik hardware? Or only TO/FROM specific remote hardware? I tried enabling logging (/system logging add prefix=debug topics=bfd), which didn't really add anything.. BGP sessions on a CCR2004

Hello all, I'm currently in the process of establishing an iBGP session between a VyOS router and a CCR2004 (which is being used to terminate NBN services) and I'm encountering an issue with routing tables. The CCR is taking an awfully long time to drain the routes that it has learnt, after we had to down the session due to a misconfiguration. It is taking hours upon hours to process the table and drop the routes. Is there a way (short of rebooting the router) to help drain the routes in a more timely manner? Further to this, what should we be selecting in the input and output affinity fields to help divide the load between all cores and reduce the strain? Regards, Christopher Hawker

Meaning of an LED icon on Wireless Cube

The Wireless Cube Pro has several LEDs - power, network activity, and five signal strength indicators. It also has an LED (in between the power and network LEDs) the function of which is a mystery. I'm *guessing* that it illuminates if the link fails over to 5GHz, but the icon does not help - it's an upside down teardrop with a stylised head and shoulders in it. Any clues? I did look through what doco I could find, to no avail. AX power on 2.4GHz

Hi, I found a configuration issue with the new Wifi drivers and AX devices with CAPSMAN. I set up 4 Mantbox 15S AX's last week at a caravan park and found their performance to be lacklustre and the complaints started to roll in. They should be stellar compared the the 10yo Metal 2N's they replaced, right? I noticed their transmit power level on 2.4GHz was being reported at 7dBm with default power settings, which seems too low in contrast to the 5GHz 15dBm level. Further digging showed the 2.4GHz Current Max Reg Power to be 20dBm (too low) and 5GHz 36dBm (fine). Today I changed the 2GHz config from Australia to USA and the level sprung up from 7dBm to 23dBm. Add the 12dB gain of the Mantbox's antenna and you get close to the class limit of 36dBm-EIRP. Amazing! Correspondingly the hapax2's in the site office and here at home as well have shown a big improvement too. Using the Wifi developer tool built into my Samsung phone I can see a +10dB signal change when I swap from AU to USA on the hapax2 here. I think Mikrotik have erroneously applied a wrong limit of 20dBm at 2.4GHz for Australia (it's that low level in many other countries) and it should be set to 36. USA appears to be 30 (1000mW EIRP) and Australia should be set to 36dBm (4000mW EIRP) so there is more gain to be had once it's corrected. Different transmit power hAP ac2 vs RB951Ui-2hND

Just curious about something. We needed some ad-hoc wifi in a small raked theatre with perhaps 30m through clear air in a straight line-of-sight from the control room (sound and lighting decks) to the stage. An hAP ac2 was losing connections all the time at that distance. An old RB951Ui-2hND was solid. The doco says the 2.4GHz transmit power differs - 30/25/30/23 vs 27/24/27/23. Is that difference enough to explain the dropouts? Why would the newer device have so much less power? Needed to share it with the 5GHz side perhaps? Both are running 7.15.1 BTW. 7.15.1 removed all my wireless interfaces (not really)

That was exciting. I upgraded from 7.11.2 to 7.15.1 on my long- suffering home router (a hAP ac^3 that's always the first against the wall) and all the wireless interfaces disappeared. Not just disabled - they were no longer present in the interface list. I rapidly downgraded back to 7.11.2. Luckily only minor cuts and abrasions, thanks for asking. All the wireless interfaces came back. Maybe I should read changelogs more. I found this in the 7.13 changelog: "Drivers for older wireless and 60GHz interfaces, as well as the wireless management system CAPsMAN, are now part of a separate "wireless" package instead of being a part of the bundle package. This package can be uninstalled if not needed." Cool, cool... ... because I can't seem to find him. The docs (and numerous helpful websites) say he is downloadable from the Mikrotik downloads page, but there I find only the client, a Windows executable. Not the server package. I'm sure that like Wally, he will be obvious when pointed out, but I could use a tap with the cluestick here... Best units for a 100m LOS radio link?

Some years ago I set up a very short-haul radio link between two buildings - only about 100m - using two SXT 5hnD units. It's been working well, but more and more things are being pushed over that link and the client is looking for something faster. There is (or will be) gigabit on both ends of this link. Any recommendations?
