Indeed! I'm expecting that it is just the first in line of a whole new product family. That's not based on any inside info - just on how that kind of thing usually goes ; ) This first one, it seems, is heavily focussed on storage but I'm anticipating some more related devices with additional RAM and CPU that can be used for running lots of containerised applications. Time will tell ; ) Anyone running a book on predictions? 😄 Cheers! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Why Choose DuxTel for all your MikroTik needs? 10 good reasons: http://duxtel.com/why_duxtel ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Follow our tweets for news and updates: http://twitter.com/duxtel -----Original Message----- From: Karl Auer via Public <public@talk.mikrotik.com.au> Sent: Tuesday, 18 March 2025 1:06 PM To: MikroTik Australia Public List <public@talk.mikrotik.com.au> Cc: Karl Auer <kauer@nullarbor.com.au> Subject: [MT-AU Public] Re: RDS2216 - switch hardware On Tue, 2025-03-18 at 11:03 +1100, Mike Everest via Public wrote:
You’re right that it needs more RAM to be /extremely/ useful, but from a storage position the immediate advantage over PC server type gear is the M.2 interfaces over SATA I guess, but apart from that, one word: routerOS ?
Maybe. But it seems an odd compromise to restrict RAM on a device that is offering itself as a container platform. They don't seem to have compromised on connectivity much, though that is arguably a less relevant requirement for what appears to be their target market. It feels a bit like a "version 1" thing. Maybe the next version of the hardware will be able to have memory added.
