Hey folks, Looking to build a solution that I can run entirely from a power bank. I've got a Starlink Mini which can be powered from a power bank, but I also need a low-power router that can also be used. What would be the best Tik that can do the job, if any at all? Regards, Christopher Hawker

Hi, Psychic gene broken. What powerbank? What voltage can it provide? What sockets does it have? What do you need the Tik to be able to do? Wireless? Not wireless? Hardware encryption? etc What are your options for charging the power bank? I much prefer using lithium power tool batteries for this sort of thing, much wider range of options available when your starting point is 18v Andrew -- 0447 440 444 andrew@oakeley.com.au If you need assistance please email (preferred) or call. - Messages by WhatsApp, Teams, Facebook Messenger, Carrier Pigeon, etc are not seen or read at all. - SMS/Text are only read first thing in the morning. -----Original Message----- From: Christopher Hawker via Public <public@talk.mikrotik.com.au> Sent: Tuesday, 22 April 2025 4:13 PM To: public@talk.mikrotik.com.au Cc: Christopher Hawker <chris@thesysadmin.au> Subject: [MT-AU Public] USB-powered routers Hey folks, Looking to build a solution that I can run entirely from a power bank. Well, one could deduce that it’d be a 12v powerbank with USB-C considering that Starlink needs a 100W PD battery with USB-C to operate… No need for your psychic gene ;) Regards, Christopher Hawker Get Outlook for iOS<https://aka.ms/o0ukef> ________________________________ From: Andrew Oakeley via Public <public@talk.mikrotik.com.au> Sent: Tuesday, April 22, 2025 7:02:42 PM To: MikroTik Australia Public List <public@talk.mikrotik.com.au> Cc: Andrew Oakeley <andrew@oakeley.com.au> Subject: [MT-AU Public] Re: USB-powered routers Hi, Psychic gene broken. Starlink mini is powered by 12vDC, which means basically every desktop or outdoor Mikrotik will work. On Tue, 22 Apr 2025 at 19:08, Christopher Hawker via Public < public@talk.mikrotik.com.au> wrote:

Hi, If you can get 12v from it then, you can run almost any tik. Therefore, I don’t understand why you need to be asking this then. Still not psychic :) Leave you to it. I had not thought of the hAP ax Lite as an option, that would allow me to run a separate smaller power bank to power the router, leaving the larger 12v one to power the dish. Definitely given me food for thought. And seeing as how the Starlink Mini can only do around 100Mbps the hAP ax Lite is an ideal device. See what happens when people ask questions? They get answers they would have not thought of. Regards, Christopher Hawker On Tue, 22/04/2025 07:11 PM, Andrew Oakeley via Public <public@talk.mikrotik.com.au> wrote:

I'd consider a Teltonika for that use-case. Unsure about the Tik side for this case. :) Cheers, Luke Thompson, CTO The Network Crew P/L E: luke.t@tnc.works https://tnc.works On 22 April 2025 6:25:00 pm Christopher Hawker via Public <public@talk.mikrotik.com.au> wrote:

Unfortunately Teltonika won't allow us to do things like EoIP where it's needed, but otherwise yes, Teltonika would have been ideal. Regards, Christopher Hawker On Tue, 22/04/2025 07:04 PM, Luke Thompson via Public <public@talk.mikrotik.com.au> wrote:

Hi Christopher, I think the one you’ll be looking at is a hAP ax lite (L41G-2axD). It’s only got 2.4GHz WiFi but it is 802.11ax (WiFi 6) so this is pretty fast for devices that support it and definitely higher than the 40-45 Mbps that is the top TCP download speeds on Starlink [1]. Alternatively, you could get a USB-C adaptor that told the power bank it would like 19V and provided that out to power almost any Mikrotik router. I know I’ve seen things like this but I’d have to dig around to find them again. Cheers, Andrew [1] https://www.potaroo.net/ispcol/2024-05/starlink-tcp.html

Hi Andrew, Yeah, I think this is the way I'll go. Compact, can be easily powered by any off-the-shelf powerbank and uses WiFi 6. Might have to consider talking to Mike about a bulk order ;) Regards, Christopher Hawker On Tue, 22/04/2025 07:25 PM, Andrew Radke <andrew@deepport.net> wrote:

Depending on the performance needed could mAP / mAP lite deliver what is required? I always have an mAP in my kit as they are so flexible in what they take in and out, power them from almost any usb port and if you need to do anything little temporarily or under restriction then its a powerful little thing. And if your power bank has a little secondary port it likely won't have much impact on lifespan. https://mikrotik.com/product/RBmAPL-2nD https://mikrotik.com/product/RBmAP2nD Regards Alexander Alexander Neilson Neilson Productions Limited alexander@neilson.net.nz 021 329 681 022 456 2326 On Tue, 22 Apr 2025 at 20:24, Christopher Hawker via Public < public@talk.mikrotik.com.au> wrote:
